Tripura best in MGNREGA & South Tripura best district

In case successful implementation of poverty-alleviation and employment generation schemes is accepted as the sole yardstick for recognition as best governance , Tripura now can legitimately claim to be the best-governed state in the country , far ahead of far larger mainstream states on Apr 02, 2014  .

As in previous years, tiny Tripura is all set to secure the best award among all states in 2013-2014 for highest achievement in implementation of the MGNREGA scheme. According to information available from MGNREGA controlling authority in Delhi Tripura had generated the highest figure of 87% mandays in 2013-2014. The South Tripura district is all set to obtain the best district award in 2013-2014 in terms of mandays generation.

'South Tripura district set an all India record by generating 97.44 % mandays which would never have been possible without a special initiative from the district administration' official sources in the RD department here said. They complimented the effective role played by the district magistrate (DM) of south Tripura, Mr Saumitra Banerjee who played the key role in inspiring officers and employees at lower level to generate as many mandays as possible. 'The 64 % mandays generated by Sikkim clearly proves that all other districts of Tripura will be ahead of Sikkim' sources in the RD department said.

Earlier in the year 2012-2013 also Tripura had won the first prize in MGNREGA implementation and the Unakoti district had been conferred the best implementing district in the country by generating 92% mandays.
