Tripura set a new
record of having the country’s highest ever voter turnout in the Hrishyamukh
assembly segment of East Tripura parliament constituency with an average of
90.68 percent turnout recorded, an official of the state election authority
said on 13th April, 2014. Hrishyamukh assembly segment was followed
by Jolaibari with a very narrow margin of difference in between. Tripura Chief
Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal said that the highest voter turnout was
recorded in the South Tripura district. Polling stations under the district recorded
an average of 85 percent voter turnout. The top election official added that the
North Tripura district recorded an average voter turnout of 75 percent on April
12. The state maintained the highest position in voter turnout graph so far in
any state of the country with approximately 85 percent of the state’s
electorate voting for the state in the two-phase parliament polls which concluded
with polling in the East Tripura constituency on Saturday.
The Chief Electoral
Officer (CEO) said that average voter turnout was recorded between 81 percent
till 83 percent. The state recorded a turnout of 84.45 percent in 2009
parliament election. The figures stood at 67.39 percent in 2004.
A total of 23 lakh 83
thousand 146 voters would be exercising their adult franchise right in the Lok
Sabha election this year. 12 lakh 46 thousand 19 of them are male and 11 lakh
37 thousand 127 are female voters as per electoral rolls published on 6th
January earlier this year. Around 15 thousand security, poll personnel and
service electors cast their votes through postal ballots.
Tripura recorded
93.57 percent voter turnout in the 2013 state legislative assembly polls.
Out of 11,38,765
voters in the West Tripura constituency, 5 lakh 40 thousand 497 were male
voters, 5 lakh 58 thousand 267 are female voters.
