With the
integration of the Dudhnai (Assam )-Mendipathar
(Meghalaya) line and the national railway grid on Friday the 28th March, 2014,
Meghalaya found a place on India 's
railway map. However, the first train will chug into the hill state only on
April 1, 2014. The proposal for creating a railway link to connect Meghalaya
with the rest of the country was announced in the 1992-93 railway budget.
The 19.47

Mendhipathar in the North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
This project of the Indian Railways was approved in 1992-93, but, faced hurdles during its initial days due to opposition from the local population. However, it is slated to be completed by 2013.
