The World Earth Hour
will be observed on Saturday, 29th March from 8 : 30 to 9 : 30 p. m. where the
State of Nagaland will also take part along with the rest of the world.
The Earth Hour is a
Global initiative of WWF and the largest environmental campaign in history,
where citizens around the world shown their support for action on climate
change by turning off non- essential lights for one hour.
The Secretary General
& CEO, National Conservation Centre, New Delhi in a letter addressed to
Chief Minister of Nagaland stated that the Earth Hour campaign, being held in
India since 2009, has inspired individual, Governments and corporation to move
towards responsible consumption and conservation of energy thus received
unprecedented support, demonstrated by participation in over 150 cities by
several City Governments, the Armed Forces, Public and Private sector
companies, celebrities and individuals. He also stated that iconic monuments
such as the India Gate, Mysore Palace, Gateway of India and several others have
switched off their lights in support.
He therefore called to
support the Earth Hour, both for the hour and towards a sustained commitment to
the environment by switching off non- essential lights.
