State to get CCTV cameras in 100 polling stations in LS polls

The state would be getting CCTV cameras in a hundred randomly selected polling stations of the state in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently assured the state government to install additional capacity of optical fiber network by the end of March. The additional capacity would facilitate uninterrupted internet connectivity for webcasts from the polling stations through close circuit cameras, a highly placed source in the state election authority. The state is staggering with a frequently disturbed broadband service save Agartala city and few sub-divisional headquarters.

The effort is initiated as a part of the special instructions from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Around 20 strong rooms are scheduled to be used before, during and after the election. All strong rooms would be placed under CCTV surveillance, election commission chairman VS Sampath said recently in an official notification.

The coming election process would be using around 20 thousand security personnel to maintain law and order and ensure free and fair Lok Sabha election. A separate source in the state election authority today informed that around 4,000 men from from 35 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) would be providing security in the elections in Tripura. The figures include around 15 thousand state police personnel, 5,000 local CRPF personnel and the security personnel coming from elsewhere in the country.
