Generic medicine sale starts in GBP hospital

Tripura government on Mar 20, 2014 opened the first generic medicine-sale counter in government run Agartala government medical college and GBP hospital.

The Tripura State Co-operative Marketing Federation Limited (Tripura Markfed) has opened the store at GBP hospital complex for selling generic medicine, where the generic medicines are being supplied by the ‘Jana Oshadi Santha’ of union government.

Hari Shankar Debnath, chairman of Tripura Markfed said that from today the doctors of GBP hospital have to prescribe the medicine as per their generic names and as per the treatment protocol and two pharmacists from health department was given posting in the generic medicine counter for smooth services.

The Health department every year renews the generic medicine list, in 2013 -14 the department has enlisted around 296 types of generic medicines for distribution among patients who visit or are admitted in government hospitals.

However, Health department said that the state government would set up storage facilities for generic medicines from grass root and more sale counter would be opened across the state.
