The Assam Rifles on 24th
March, 2014 celebrated its 179th Raising Day at a function at its headquarters at
Net Staffer Shillong, Meghalaya.
Raised in 1835 with 750 combatants, the
country’s oldest paramilitary force now has the strength of 46 battalions.
The Raising Day function of the “
Friends of the North East People” was also attended by Governor K. K. Paul,
Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court PC Pant, Director General of Meghalaya
Police PJP Hanaman besides a number of senior officers from the Army, Air Force
and other Central armed police forces.
