15 crew members indicted over South Korean ferry disaster

Officials said prosecutors have indicted 15 crew members — four of them on homicide charges — over last month’s ferry disaster in South Korea.

The indictment was filed on Thursday on 15th May, 2014 in Gwangju District Court. The trial date will be decided in a few days.

Prosecutors said they brought homicide charges against the ship’s captain and three other crew members because they failed to carry out their duties to protect the ship’s passengers.

Eleven other crew members were indicted for alleged negligence and abandoning passengers in need.

The 15 crew members, all involved in the ship’s navigation, were the first group of people rescued when the Sewol was listing badly.
